This month, we’re featuring a stunning headshot session shot in the Soho. The images are clean, timeless, and crafted with intention — a perfect reflection of the photographer’s thoughtful approach.

Meet Crystal Warlow : A Saskatoon-based photographer and the heart behind Joi Photo since 2007. She specializes in branding, boudoir, and dream shoots that are equal parts stunning and empowering. Whether she’s creating bold, scroll-stopping visuals for a new business or capturing the fierce, sexy confidence in a boudoir session, Crystal’s work is all about helping people see their beauty and tell their story.

This is the kind of art that keeps her inspired — every single day.
When she’s not behind the camera, she loves to snuggle with puppies, sip chai lattes, chase sunshine on hot beaches, and always says yes to a little adventure!

Q: What was the vision behind this shoot?

Crystal: “The vision for this shoot was simplicity done well. We wanted to create clean, elevated images that felt timeless and intentional, the kind of photos that instantly communicate professionalism and confidence.”

Q: If you could photograph any person-living or historical-who it be and why?

Crystal: “Lady Gaga. She’s fearless with her art and I imagine she’d be up for literally anything. I love her mind and how she balances creativity with authenticity.”

Q: What’s one lesson you’ve learned that you’d share with new photographers?

Crystal: “One lesson? How about a couple little pieces of advice that might sound cliche or obvious but they're foundational. First, only show what you actually want to shoot, that’s how you attract the right clients. Be obsessed with your craft -learn everything you can about posing and lighting and don't just rely on natural/existing light. Learn to use flash creatively and you'll never be stuck in a bad light situation.  And most importantly, stay curious. The best photographers never stop learning.”

Q: Why did you choose White Space Studios for this shoot?

Crystal: “We wanted a clean, minimalist backdrop that wouldn’t compete with the subject. White Space is the perfect blank canvas.”

Q:  How do you usually help people feel comfortable in front of the camera — especially for headshots, where all the focus is on their face?

Crystal: “Helping people feel comfortable really starts with me being confident. When I know my lighting and posing inside out, I can show up relaxed, playful, and fully focused on them and that energy is contagious. I give clear, easy direction and keep things lighthearted so they never have to wonder what to do. When someone realizes they can just follow my lead and it’s all “easy breezy,” that’s when they let go, and their personality naturally shines through”
