Meet Desiree Martin: A Saskatoon-based photographer who believes every session is a chance to step into someone’s story. Since turning her passion into a profession in 2011, she’s worked with thousands of clients, building lasting relationships and often capturing the same families as their lives grow and evolve.
Her approach is relaxed and genuine, blending gentle direction with plenty of laughter so moments unfold naturally. Desiree is drawn to meaningful locations that reflect each client’s story, creating images that feel personal and timeless.
When she’s not behind the camera you will find her chauffeuring her kids to dance and basketball. When she gets a moment to herself, you’ll find her thrifting, at spin class, or indulging in a little trash TV.
Q: What was the vision behind this shoot?
Desiree: “Capturing a family with a new addition. We wanted clean, simple, raw and timeless photos that they could cherish for years.”
Q: If you could photograph any person-living or historical-who it be and why?
Desiree: “Probably Erykah Badu or Beyoncé. I’ve always been drawn to their energy, edge, style, and undeniable talent. They both have such a presence and natural beauty and I think working with either of them would be an incredible creative experience.”
Q: What’s one lesson you’ve learned that you’d share with new photographers?
Desiree: “Always make sure that you continue to capture things that fill your cup as an artist to keep the creativity alive. Comparison is the thief of joy. Stop comparing yourself to others in the industry; their content, their drive, their travels, their success etc.. Take time to reflect on how important our role is to capture people’s precious moments.”
Q: What three words would you use to describe your photography style?
Desiree: “I’d say editorial, intimate and effortless.”
Q: Why did you choose White Space Studios for this shoot?
Desiree: “I love to create at White Space because of the simplicity and amazing light, it’s very consistent and always a good backdrop for some clean, timeless photos.”
